The Island

By accounts written in the late 1800's the monolithic feature rising up in the middle of Big Cottonwood Canyon know as "The Island" was described to have been situated on the North side Big Cotttonwood Creek.  Some time in the last 100 and some years The Island ended up on the South Side of the Creek.  A rock slide, which is identified by the green slope on the right side of this westward looking picture, obstructed the flow of the creek and diverted it to the other side of the island.  Today, Max and Christi and I climbed to the tippy top by way of the curved "lieback Crack" which can be seen on the left middle of the rock and contrasted by shadows.
