Mukuntuweap National Monument
Before Zion National Park was renamed by the newly formed Park Service it was known as Mukuntuweap National Monument. The fear was that the difficult pronunciation of the monument would deter visitors. Again it was an attempt at neatly compressing something different, vast, unconventional or wild into a mold that is convenient for the tourist, visitor or, most importantly, the consumer.
We ate our lunch on the summit. We watched the canyon and after a long and comfortable amount of time at the top we slowly made our way back down.
